I did something today that I haven't done since 1997.

IMG_4080.JPG

In December of 1997, I decided to get one of those wallets with the chains. I thought I was hardcore. Fuck, I was so hardcore, the measly chain that came with the wallet wasn't big enough, I needed a bigger one.

I was fucking hardcore.

In the spring of 1999, I started sticking stickers on it. It started with a "I'm a Toys R Us Kid!" sticker, and snowballed from there. I can remember just about all the stickers I ever put on it. If you strip it away, you go through the last seven years of my life. There's a "In-N-Out Burger" sticker from my trip to LA last spring. An "X" I stole from the back of a cab back in 2001. A "The Hippos" and "The Matrix" stickers from the VASA office. A "Onslaught" sticker from the Roscetti's dorm room. A faded photo booth sticker of Me, Armando, Kieran, Joe and Ibanez from the night we went to go see "10 Things I hate About You". A "Blockbuster Video Be Kind Rewind" sticker from my previously viewed copy of "Chasing Amy".

This is the new one. It's surprisingly easier to sit on.

So now that my wallet's gone, that means that the thing that's been with me everyday for the longest time is now this:

And everyday, I look to it for guidance and wisdom.

Mr. T, Rock Star!

Mr T + The Neptunes = Awesome.

I made this two years ago when I was testing my home editing system. I never made anything quite as awesome ever again.

Doomed By The Bell.

So this crazy weather has given me a ridiculous cold. Instead of just resting, and trying to get rid of it, I've been on the internet. I did finally get around to uploading an old school project that I did with my good buddy Chris McGlynn (who I owe a phone call to) for an AfterEffects class back in our senior year at SVA.

Doomed By The Bell.

Dr. Doom kidnaps the cast of "Saved By The Bell". Captain America to the rescue!

It's a homage to the old 1960's Marvel Super-Heroes cartoons by Grantray-Lawrence Animation. They were ridiculously low budget, and instead of actually drawing new animation, they just took the old Marvel comics, and basically shook them around the screen. Add some bad voice acting, and VOILA! You have one of the greatest cartoons of all time.

I wanted to add sound effects, and splice in the old Captain America cartoon opening, but we ran out of time. We got the "B" we were both looking for, so we put the project aside, and continued with our thesis projects. All the voices are me, all the good animation was done by Chris, and all the bad stuff was me. The artwork is cribbed from Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, and Dave Gibbons. The cast of "Saved By The Bell" appears courtesy of NBC Productions.

Feel free to spread this around the web.

It was a pornography store. I was buying pornography.

I worked there for five years. Then they moved, and a porno store moved in.

I think I worked there for the wrong five years.

Voldemort still can't stop the rock.

In celebration of my new job, I went to go see Harry & The Potters again, this time accompanied by the multimedia extravaganza that is Uncle Monsterface. They were kicking off their new tour in the basement of Our Lady of Consolation here in Williamsburg, along with some locals who called themselves Puttin' On The Ritz.

140 photos available here.

An explanation.

Did you ever have one of those moments where you run into someone you don't see frequently, and they hit you with the big question: "So what's new?" And then you sit there for a minute, cataloging your recent life, and finally, you say, "Nothin'."

That's been happening way too often for me lately. You can only say "Yeah, I got these awesome new Batman shoes." for so long before you have to revert back to the old standby, "Nothin'."

Within the span of a few hours yesterday, an interesting possibility was brought up to me. An editor who I really respect at the BBC gave me the name of a contact of his who was looking for an assistant editor for a short term project, a pilot for MTV. I shot my resumé over to them, and they wanted to see me immediately. I took the interview in the afternoon, and it went incredibly well. They officially offered me the gig within hours, and I was stuck with an interesting decision. It wouldn't be a change in pay, but it would mean that in 6 weeks, I might have to go looking high and low for a new job. It means going back to nights for a few weeks at least, but it would mean more editing opportunities, which is something I'm not getting now. I talked to some of my peers, and betters, and my boss, and they all said the same thing: Take it.

So I did.

It starts sometime next week. I'm excited. Sure, I lose my day shift, and my benefits, but I gain something I've been looking for for a while: to work on a show that I would actually watch.

For those who are worried, this does not affect any of my plans for this year. If everything falls through, I got my savings backing me up. I'm still going to San Diego (where something I might be working on might be shown). I'm still going to Michigan for my buddy's wedding in September. And I'm still going to move out of my parent's basement.

Wait, what?

Strange things are happening to me. Strange things.

I quit my job today.

Oh my god, what have I done?
